A few kilometres south of Falconara, Ancona rises, an elegant and refined Doric city, once a crossroads of exchanges and a meeting point of multiple cultures, thanks to the conformation of its territory, sees the sun rise and set over the sea. Numerous historical-cultural itineraries, evidence of a glorious past that still shows itself in all their splendour: churches, museums, places of silence and spiritual retreat are spaces dedicated to culture, capable of telling and reviving the traditions and events that they marked the evolution of Falconara and its territory. In the upper part of the city, the wonderful Church of Sant'Antonio, inspired by the Romanesque style with exposed bricks, and a wonderful arcaded portico, is adorned with a precious mosaic. Continuing, near Castelferretti, the church of S. Maria della Misericordia, a jewel built as a thanksgiving to the Virgin after an epidemic of plague, inside which wonderful frescoes are preserved, a favourite destination for all art lovers. Furthermore, perched on the hills of the Marche hinterland, the hermitage of Monte Giove rises near Fano, in an oasis of peace and silence: an ideal place to relax and regenerate and where time is marked only by the discreet presence of the Camaldolese monks who live inside. Finally, a few km from Falconara, housed in the monumental complex of the former fourteenth-century Dominican convent, the unforgettable "Paper and Watermark Museum" of Fabriano can be visited to retrace seven hundred years of paper tradition for the manufacture of paper.

Falconara Marittima of the fortifications

A pedestrian path immersed in a lush pine forest connects the marina to Falconara Alta, the historic core of Falconara Marittima: here, in a panoramic position over the Esino valley and the Adriatic Sea, stands the imposing Castle.. The medieval castle with the splendid gardens that surround it is one of the best preserved in the area, and a visit to it offers a journey back in history.

In the ancient city centre stands the Church of Santa Maria delle Grazie of medieval origin and with a simple Gothic portal. Of great cultural interest is the Franciscan and Picena Library kept in the Convent of the Friars Minor, unique in the world for the rich collection of editions of the Fioretti di San Francesco.

Furthermore, the fourteenth-century Castelferretti Castle, which has become an ancient watchtower to a fortified place; the ruins of the Barcaglione Castle, an imposing 11th century fortress and the valuable Rocca Priora Castle, with its Vanvitellian portal are definitely worth a visit.

Falconara of parks and nature trails

Numerous public city parks, such as Kennedy Park, Oasi del Tesoro Park and the highly equipped UNICEF ​​Park: real green lungs characterized by shady cycle paths, wonderful naturalistic and sports routes and regenerating areas surrounded by greenery among trees, fragrant bushes and glades. A true paradise for nature lovers is the excursion along the banks of the Esino river, a land rich in fauna and unusual tree species; also of particular interest is the path that leads from the Green Hall to the ruins of the "Liscia", once used for water regulation. Do not miss a visit to the historic Molino Santinelli while to the right of the river mouth lies the wonderful Parco del Cormorano, a large green area with sport fishing ponds, also used for concerts and interesting events.

For lovers of outdoor sports, a long cycle path runs alongside the Esino connecting Chiaravalle to the imposing town of Rocca Priora. Furthermore, a few km from Falconara the splendid protected natural area between Ancona, Portonovo, Sirolo and Numana offers crystal clear sea ideal for practicing endless water sports including surfing, sailing, kitesurfing, diving and numerous nature trails and paths to cycle or horseback to discover the lush Conero Park.

To conclude, within the Marches Apennines, the Frasassi Caves complex is one of the most fascinating and evocative underground naturalistic paths in the world with an underground ecosystem masterfully dug by water whose life flows undisturbed for millions of years.
